some thoughts

There are always two people in every picture: the photographer and the viewer. ~Ansel Adams

You don't take a photograph. You ask, quietly, to borrow it. ~Author Unknown

I think a photography class should be a requirement in all educational programs because it makes you see the world rather than just look at it. ~Author Unknown

My portraits are more about me than they are about the people I photograph. ~Richard Avedon

All photos are accurate. None of them is the truth. ~Richard Avedon

Photography deals exquisitely with appearances, but nothing is what it appears to be. ~Duane Michals

Too Bad I Didn't Have A Little Man to Kill... (Caitlin)

So I know this isn't an exact replica...since the original was a drawing. So I went for the basic image and also the vibe, which is why I decided to make mine a little darker to compensate for not having a little man being killed. Also I feel the leather in the original must have been patent, because my leather was not a reflective...but I tried.

Armada Skis

So this is the photo i was trying to reproduce. It's an advertisement for Armada Skis featuring Tanner Hall.

I took a photograph of my roommate Scott in the light studio and superimposed it onto a photo I took over spring break in Colorado.

Bresha's ad

The lighting studio was closed all weekend so the got milk ad did not come out like i wanted it to.

marc jacobs ad- kara

so here is my advertisement post...i had a few difficulties with the fact that my bag was not nearly as big as victoria beckham's...and the fact that it wasnt actually a marc jacobs bag at all, but a birthday bag covered in white paper. but hey, i think it worked.

i also think the lighting worked pretty well without the receiver to the big flashes in the studio. i used my nikon speedlight sb-28 flash, which worked pretty well for the typical marc jacobs look, which is pretty blown out and high on the white. this was a fun shoot!

GUMMI BEARS!!!!!!!!! by Mariel

This is a really pretty model wearing gummi bears around her neck.

And this is ME wearing gummi bears around MY neck!

The lighting studio was not entirely working, so I had to improvise a little bit, but the idea is there!

Tori's Advertisement

I know it isn't exactly the same, I was going more for a satirical copy than an exact replica.

Kanye's blog

Kanye West's blog has many great photos, both from photo shoots and new photographers but also from many of the items that he shows.

Canon A-1 recreate photos

Canon A-1 recreate

So, I got my dad's old Canon A-1 from home, and this inspired me to find an old Canon A-1 ad to do, unfortunately, I couldn't find one but their is a beautiful photo from the cover of the manual, so I decided to recreate it. However, I had a few issues since I couldn't get a hold of the strobis kit and i couldn't find the thingy for the top of the camera so I couldn't use that either. So this is done to the best of my ability with a lamp in my room.

Work with light...and lions.

First off, sorry for posting these shots without making more of an effort to get in contact with the group, but i spoke to sheila and we both agreed on some really strong shots. Second, I know this is a lot of shots to post for a challenge, but I though that considering the situation, i should include a range.

My favorite is the profile shot of Tyler in the bathroom. I blew it up and printed it on the 9900, so if you want to check it out, i hung it in the classroom.

Max.

Tylers Studium/ Punctum

First I want to apologize for my tardiness on this post I had a hard time finding a photo that I wanted to post. The studium of this picture is that of an abandoned railroad. The railroad connotes industrial, and a bygone era. The overgrown plants on either side also allude to the bygone feeling of the picture. The punctum in the picture is the women wearing and more specifically the high heals. The heals and her overall appearance are so far removed from the scene that she is in that it makes the viewer take a double take. Her presences and her clothing creates the feeling that she is lost.
